GWP-SEA Participation in ASEAN Workshop

ASEAN Regional Workshop on Risks and Impacts from Extreme Events of Floods in ASEAN Countries “ held in Bali - Indonesia on 9th-10th June 2010.







The Objectives of the workshop is:

The flood vulnerability and adaptation assessment workshop “Risk and Impacts from Extreme Weather Events of Flood in ASEAN Countries” is designed to:

1. Assist in assessing the current capacity in and among ASEAN Member States in regards to flood management, and their individual and collective preparedness to engage in risk mitigation and adaptation planning.

2. Identify capacity gaps, barriers and what is needed to improve flood management.

3. Provide best practice flood management solutions to help guide the preparation of action plans to address these identified capacity gaps.

4. Develop draft action plans

 

On the first day 9th June 2010, GWP SEA Chair Dr. Le Van Minh gave “Introduction on Global Water Partnership Southeast Asia”


On the second day 10thJune 2010, in the Panel of Presentations on Best Practices on International/Regional Flood Management with title “ Best Practices on the Application of Non-structural Measures in Flood Management” delivered by Dato’ Ahmad Husaeni bin Sulaiman, Director General of Department of Irrigation and Drainage, Malaysia, Member of Steering Committee of Global Water Partnership Southeast Asia

Participants for this workshop are:

•Designated representatives from the water sector in each Member State

•Focal points from the ASEAN Working Group on Water Resources Management

•Global Water Partnership - South East Asia

•Host Country Ministry: Indonesian Ministry of Public Works and partners

•ASEAN Secretariat and Collaborators
